The Jiri Valley, known as Nepal’s Switzerland and the Gateway to Everest, is a small beautiful village that is expected to be declared a municipality with an aim to encourage domestic tourism. This seven-day route to Everest base camp from Jiri, situated 183 km north-east of Kathmandu, became the most preferred approach for climbers closing in on the world´s highest mountain (Mount Everest).

Jiri lies at an elevation of 1,905 meters (6,250 feet) and is the eastern-most terminus of the Araniko highway coming from Kathmandu. There is a local bus service available from Kathmandu (Old Buspark) that takes 184 km ride takes 6 to 8 hours due to narrow, winding roads and checkpoints along the high-way (until 2006). The new Hotels building is being constructed and Jiri Hospital is improving the conditions and reconstructed.
